RAF Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with French aircraft in a joint strike on an subterranean weapons facility in Syria used by the IS group, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
The facility, identified by reconnaissance, was thought to be storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was located in mountains just north of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a series of approach shafts providing entry to the depot... initial indications suggest the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the operation late on Saturday and each participating jet returned safely, the MoD added.
The Typhoon FGR4s were supported by a Voyager tanker plane.
